Features
Photoshop Integration
Currently iShell supports Photoshop files but they are treated exactly the same as standard JPEG or PNG files: only the "flattened" single-layer image is displayed.
ImageLayer, on the other hand, allows you to work with individual Photoshop Layers and then extracts from your layers:
- Name
- X, Y position
- Width, Height
- Alpha Channel
- Opacity
- And much more...
Smart Integration
Because ImageLayer extracts so much information from each layer, we use this to better integrate this with iShell, including:
- Support for iShell 3 button behavior
- Calculating the cursor boundary region on the alpha channel
- An extremely easy way to create flipbooks based on layer sets
- Advanced Flipbooks: instead of one cell being drawn, multiple cells can be drawn at the same time.
- Advanced Button support, create very complex buttons automatically in Photoshop.
Photoshop Synchronizations
Besides the new integration of multiple layers, another significant feature of the ImageLayer plugin comes in synchronization: update your Photoshop document, and your iShell project updates automatically.
No other authoring tool delivers this level of integration with Photoshop. Your favorite graphic software becomes your iShell Developer!
MVO (Media Versatile Objects) File Format
Photoshop files tend to be very large, and so are not an ideal format for distribution over the internet or on a CD-ROM. To solve this problem, we created a new file format that contains all the Photoshop information and saves each Layer in JPEG or PNG. This new format, used by the ImageLayer plugin, contains all the data from the standard Photoshop file, but at a dramatically smaller file size. During testing, we saw 1 MB Photoshop files reduced to 200 KB MVO files - one fifth the size!
Known Issues
- ImageLayer does not work with 16bit color channel ImageLayer files.
- Photoshop CS2 and CS3 work in the latest version of ImageLayer 2.0
